Job #4865 – Our client, a well-established Canadian consulting engineering firm recognized for its innovative work on complex architectural and infrastructure projects, is seeking a seasoned Senior Financial Controller. Reporting directly to the President, this is a key leadership role for a polished and capable finance professional who brings integrity, strong business acumen, and excellent communication skills to the table. You will act as a trusted advisor and hands-on leader, managing day-to-day financial operations and financial reporting requirements while contributing strategic insight to support the company’s growth.   • Present monthly financial reports and analysis to the President
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations to ensure accuracy
  • Monitor cash flow and forecast short-term funding needs
  • Develop annual budgets with leadership and provide ongoing profitability forecasts
  • Analyze financial reports including project costs, customer accounts, vendor payments and auditor requests
  • Oversee client account reconciliation, collections, and shareholder loan management
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and software efficiency
  • Liaise with corporate accountants, insurance, and security providers
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and handle annual insurance renewals
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including year-end accruals and adjustments
  • Manage client billing, expense payments, and tax filings
  • Oversee payroll processing and ensure timely submission of employment records and tax documents
  • Recruit, train, and manage administrative and accounting staff; assign duties and evaluate performance

Qualifications

The main qualifications for this role include:

  • Post-secondary education in finance and/or accounting required
  • A completed CPA designation is preferred but not mandatory
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in accounting with at least 3 years in a management role
  • Excellent understanding of ASPE
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Previous professional services or construction experience considered an asset
  • Proficient in Excel
