Job #5016 – Our client is a national, not-for-profit organization focused on advancing research in medicine. They are looking to add a full-time, permanent Accounting Specialist to their team, someone who brings strong attention to detail, excellent organization, and a proven ability to meet deadlines, along with a problem-solving mindset. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for supporting daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions. This role ensures the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions while gaining exposure to month-end close, reporting, and audit activities. Working closely with the accounting team, the incumbent helps maintain the integrity of financial data within a not-for-profit environment while further developing their accounting skills and expertise. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the main responsibilities include:
- Record and reconcile finance transactions within the general ledger
- Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with accounting procedures
- Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and employee expense claims accurately and on time
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including reconciliations and issue resolution
- Assist with financial reporting, including budget versus actual analysis
- Support the annual audit through documentation preparation and variance review
- Maintain accurate vendor records and monitor budget activity as required
- Ensure confidentiality of all financial and sensitive information while performing other related duties

Qualifications:
The main qualifications for this role include:
- Completed post-secondary diploma or degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field
- 3+ years of full-cycle accounting experience
- Proficiency with accounting software and intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- Not-for-profit experience and bilingualism (French/English) are considered assets
How You Will Be Rewarded:
- $65,000 – $75,000 annual salary range
- Group insurance from day 1
- 3 weeks’ vacation, plus 2 weeks shutdown at Christmas
- Hybrid work environment with set office days
- RRSP employer contribution up to 6%
