Job #5097 – Our client, located in the south end of Ottawa, is seeking a full-time, permanent Financial Controller to join their management team! Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller will provide leadership across the company’s financial operations, ensuring strong financial oversight, reporting, and controls while supporting the business through budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and project financial management. As a key partner to ownership and senior leadership, the Controller will translate financial performance into actionable insights, identifying opportunities to improve profitability, strengthen cash flow, and enhance operational efficiency. This role will have a strong understanding of the business as a whole and will use that perspective to support sound financial decision-making and the company’s continued growth. Main responsibilities include:
- Lead the full accounting function, including financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and year-end coordination
- Oversee job costing and project financial performance across operations
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and variance analysis
- Oversee cash flow, working capital, collections, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Ensure accurate and timely billing, including monitoring unbilled work and outstanding receivables
- Oversee payroll reporting and labor cost analysis, including productivity and utilization
- Manage financial controls related to inventory, equipment, fleet, purchasing, expenses, and payments
- Ensure tax, payroll, and other regulatory requirements are met
- Develop financial KPIs, dashboards, and reporting to support business decisions
- Provide ownership and senior management with financial analysis, profitability insights, and recommendations to improve margins, efficiency, and cash flow
- Partner with operational leaders and project managers to identify cost overruns, margin issues, and opportunities to improve overall business performance

Qualifications:
The main qualifications for this role include:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related field
- CPA designation complete or in progress is considered an asset
- A minimum of 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong background in job costing, project accounting, and WIP reporting
- Industry experience in construction, trades, or project/service-based businesses is considered an asset
- Solid knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and financial reporting
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, AR, AP, and payroll
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
