Job #5039 – We are currently seeking a Controller for our client, a growing contractor based in the National Capital Region specializing in excavation and site development services. This is a newly created, full-time permanent position established to support the company’s continued growth and to strengthen its financial operations. Working closely with ownership, the controller will take command of day-to-day accounting activities, support cash flow management, and assist with project financial tracking, while helping to build structure, consistency, and efficiency across financial processes. The ideal candidate is a hands-on and dependable accounting professional who is comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, operational environment. They bring a practical, solutions-oriented approach, strong communication skills, and the confidence to take ownership and make sound decisions. They are proactive, adaptable, and capable of building structure while working closely with leadership to support the ongoing growth of the business. Main responsibilities include:
- Own the full accounting cycle, including month-end and year-end close processes, and prepare accurate financial statements and records.
- Manage payroll, benefits administration, and coordination with external accounting partners.
- Manage day-to-day cash flow, accounts payable and receivable, including collections, payment scheduling, and direct coordination with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Support job costing, progress billing, and project financial tracking, including maintenance of accurate WIP reporting.
- Contribute to improving financial processes, controls, and overall operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with tax, remittance, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner closely with ownership to provide financial insight, support decision-making, and operate with a high level of autonomy to identify issues and implement practical solutions.

Qualifications
The main qualifications for this role include:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- CPA designation is considered an asset
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Solid background in project accounting, including job costing and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting.
- Confident working independently in a hands-on role, with strong accountability and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Effective communicator who collaborates well with suppliers, project teams, and senior stakeholders
- Skilled in accounting systems and advanced Excel
How You Will Be Rewarded:
- $80,000 – $85,000 annual salary range
