Job #5138 – We are recruiting on behalf of a growing Ottawa-based real estate development and construction management firm specializing in high-quality residential and commercial projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a Controller to join the organization on a full-time, permanent basis and take ownership of its accounting operations across multiple entities. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will oversee full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, job costing, cash flow management, and regulatory compliance. As a hands-on leader, you will progressively assume key accounting responsibilities from the CFO, strengthen financial processes and internal controls, and work closely with project managers and executive leadership to support informed decision-making and profitable growth. The ideal candidate is a technically capable, dependable, and approachable professional with strong communication skills, a practical mindset, and the ability to build effective relationships across the organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will:
- Oversee month-end close, financial statements, reconciliations, variance analysis, and management reporting
- Manage job costing, work-in-progress (WIP), project budgets, profitability analysis, and cost-to-complete forecasting
- Prepare rolling cash flow forecasts and coordinate billings, collections, supplier payments, and funding requirements
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoices, collections, and supplier compliance documentation
- Manage the full accounting cycle for the holding company, including rent roll administration, recurring journal entries, and intercompany balances
- Lead year-end financial reporting, external accountant reviews, corporate tax filings, HST returns, and compliance across all legal entities
- Strengthen internal controls, standardize accounting procedures, and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency
- Collaborate with project managers, general managers, the CFO, and executive leadership to improve financial reporting, support decision-making, and drive profitability

Qualifications:
The main qualifications for this role include:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- CPA designation in good standing is considered an asset
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in construction, restoration, real estate, or job costing environments
- Experience with multi-entity accounting, month-end close and intercompany transactions
- Knowledge of Canadian corporate tax, HST, and year-end processes with external accountants
- Familiarity with property or rental accounting, Canadian payroll, and related remittances is an asset
- Knowledgeable in QuickBooks Online and job costing methodology
- Excellent communication skills
