Job #5102 – Our client is a well-established not-for-profit organization in Ottawa that is seeking a Director of Finance to lead their finance function and help shape the organization's next stage of growth. This is a rare opportunity for a hands-on finance leader to combine strategic influence with day-to-day involvement, leading a small, close-knit team while staying directly engaged in core accounting and reporting. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll be a key partner in decisions that directly affect the organization's ability to serve its community! The ideal candidate is a collaborative, hands-on finance leader with a team-first mindset and a genuine willingness to help where needed. They are curious, adaptable, and comfortable in a patient-focused environment, bringing empathy, professionalism, and a strong commitment to a mission-driven culture built on care, collaboration, and service excellence. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and oversee a small finance team responsible for payroll and accounting functions, while maintaining a hands-on approach
  • Manage month-end close processes, including preparation of financial statements, reporting, and performance analytics
  • Complete various government reporting requirements related to funding and compliance
  • Develop forecasting models and “what-if” scenario analyses to support strategic financial planning and decision-making
  • Lead year-end audit preparation and coordination
  • Support organizational growth strategy through market analysis, competitor research, and evaluation of service expansion opportunities

Qualifications

The main qualifications for this role include:

  • Degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA designation required
  • 7+ years of experience in the full cycle of accounting, including management with a strategic focus
  • Proficient in Excel

How You Will Be Rewarded:

  • $110,000 – $130,000 annual salary range
