Job #5099 – Our reputable client with a long-standing and fixed presence in the local construction industry is seeking a highly accurate, confident and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join their team on a full-time permanent basis. As Project Accountant, you will oversee the financial management of construction projects throughout their entire lifecycle. This position is responsible for maintaining reliable project cost records, managing budgets, processing billing, and preparing financial reports while ensuring adherence to accounting requirements, contractual obligations, and company policies. The role involves partnering with project managers, site personnel, suppliers, and senior finance management to assess financial results, identify potential issues, and provide accurate information to guide project-related decisions. The ideal Project Accountant will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, excellent organizational and analytical abilities, keen attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and accountability. Main responsibilities include:
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, cost tracking, job costing, and variance analysis
- Oversee project billing, client invoices, progress draws, subcontractor invoices, and payment processing
- Monitor project cash flow, manage fund transfers, and coordinate electronic payments to maintain adequate project and operating balances
- Prepare financial, WIP, and cost reports while supporting month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, audits, and contractual compliance
- Partner with project managers, site teams, procurement, and finance to communicate financial performance and address issues
- Systems & Data Management: Support Yardi implementation through project data uploads, validation, and ongoing financial data management
- Provide additional financial analysis, reporting, and related support as required by the Controller

Qualifications:
The main qualifications for this role include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA/CA/CMA/CGA designation is an asset
- 3+ years of accounting experience with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced MS Office skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Construction industry experience is an asset
- Yardi and accounting software experience is an asset
